Description: I am casually (no time constraints) looking into producing a compilation of short stories that loosely adhere to a specific sci-fi/horror theme. Like an anthology but with a unifying motif. I have one in mind. I would like to hire a writer to produce *just one* of these short stories for now, and maybe add more stories as time goes by, either through your service or others,as we are looking to exhibit a variety of work, tone, style, etc.

My overall plan is to get maybe 15 stories that my friend and I can shape to our tastes through editing and feedback with the writers. Worst case, we can use the stories and add to them ourselves.

I have zero experience but would eventually like to take the end product to an agent and try to get an audiobook made, so the writing should be conducive to spoken word and audiobook conversion.

My first step is to get a quote on much much it would cost for one story.

Additional Info (Added 8/3/2009 18:11 (EST))...

There aren't many creative restrictions but generally,I am looking for each story to have a somewhat heavy/dense prose, meaning poetically or philosophically written to an extent. Not too crazy but stylish. I'd like to see elements of either horror, fantasy, sci fi or macabre, adventure, mystery or whatever works for the writer. Each story should be different in type and there are currently no stories yet. The motifs for the end product (compilation of stories) are as follow:

The role of the protagonist is to positively intervene in a situation, either to help a subject alone or to contribute to an outcome. the protagonist is unaware of his/her actual role or situation and finds himself suddenly, randomly, subtly, or inexplainably in a setting and proceeds along on instinct or improvisation, rather than intentional motive. He/she can be a willing participant or not. at the end, the protagonist will have achieved their role and the outcome despite all these variables and without regard to effort. Meaning the outcome is pre-fixed anyway, and the characters simply clothed, set, and put to motion.

The implied, but not mentioned, background of each protagonist in the short story is that they are recycled souls with a past they may vaguely recall at best, acting as simple agents of limited personality. Their function is to balance out the cards for someone or group of people in a bad situation (paranormal or normal). At the end of the story they cease to exist or disappear in some dramatic way that is not observed by others and not even understood or thought about by themselves.
On to next story.

They were not selected for any particular reason other than timing and availability. Meaning their selection as players has nothing to do with redemption or anything and is random, so their personalities do not really have to match the situation.
Their past is not important but may influence their methods subconsciously.

I don't wan't the protagonist to be entirely one dimensional, traces of past life/ personality should show but be vague or subtle. They can be likeable or not. Humerous or stoic, good or bad etc. However, other characters are open ended and can be more developed. additionally, there should be some action or something remarkably awesome/outstanding in each story, be it an antogonist, a resolution, a description, etc. I have modeled these motifs on compilations of short stories, pulp fiction, sci fi/ fanatasy magazines that I was exposed to in the early 90's as a kid. My goal is to up the quality of writing and complexity for this type of work so as to appeal to an adult audience and be marketable as an audiobook.

Hi. I am a published writer (I have had two short stories published over the last twelve months or so, plus other forms of writing) and I already write within the "genres" you have alluded to in your post. I can provide examples of my writing including published fiction if you would like to see the sort of thing you would get from me. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Nick.
