Description: My wife and I have two sons, both adopted. One domestically and has been ours from time of birth the other was adopted from Ethiopia as a 4 year old and he is now almost 7. The book that i envision is part memoir and part reflections and advice on parenting with an emphasis on the unique challenges of adopting older children internationally (language and cultural barriers). Although I have been thinking about the project for sometime, the recent story involving the return of an adopted 7 year old Russian child has opened discussion about the unique challenges involved in adopting older children from foreign countries. In addition, I wish to explore the viewpoint of the birth families of adoptive children as we have maintained a unique relationship with our son's birth family. Obviously ,the project would require the ghostwriter to be willing to work closely with me rather than simply editting.

Oh, this subject has a soft spot in my heart, too! I have visited Russian orphanages and seen the squalor, and have a friend who's been turned down for foreign adoption. If you want to work closely with someone and write an entire book, here's an idea of how I work as a ghostwriter: I would probably charge $1500-2000 flat for the first 60 days if I'm actually writing some of it, not just editing. Depends how much of my time must be devoted to the project. After that we could negotiate. My charge for articles is $50 for 350 words, so for a whole book (generally 60,000-65,000 words) this is a good deal. It is interesting how each of the writers for ghostwriting and memoirs work in a different way. I see you as my only source. You and I work together on a very detailed outline. Then I write questions in the same order based on that outline. I interview you and edit the transcription. Voila! The book is very close to being done.
